Sailing Courses for Adults at The Tides Inn

So many people dream about learning to sail, or owning a boat some day. And many eventually do. We understand this and we understand that, when you book a course with us, it is our responsibility to make your dream become a reality.

We teach you to be in control of a boat, and that is what it is all about. We help you to overcome your anxieties. Or, for those of you with no worries who want to do it all as fast and as full as you can, we will move at your pace and push you as hard as you want to go.

We never bombard you with strange terminology or try to impress you. We do our best to make learning to sail a pleasant, positive, if sometimes challenging experience.

Our basic sailing course takes 4 full days and can be done over 2 weekends if desired. We start at 9.30 and finish at 4.30 and lunch is taken at anchor somewhere. Although highly structured, the courses are intensively practical and are aimed at getting you out on the water and independent as quickly as possible.

Our group sizes never exceed 4 students which ensures that you get lots of personal attention and lots of hands on sailing experience.

CHOOSE FROM ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES

Basic Keelboat:
For absolute beginners
US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification
4 full days

This course includes such things as leaving and returning to the dock, sail handling, general good seamanship, anchoring, rope work, safety procedures, sailing theory and points of sailing, tides, weather forecasts, right of way rules, sail trim, and more.

Introduction to Sailing:
For absolute beginners
2 full days

This course is essentially the same as taking the first two days of the Basic Sailing course and is intended for people who are unsure or unable to commit to a 4 day course.

Basic Cruising:
For graduates of Basic Keelboat or sailors with sufficient previous experience.
US Sailing Basic Cruising Certification
3 full days

This course takes your knowledge to a deeper level. You will learn all about the boat's systems - engines, electrical, the rigging, water systems, radio use and all you will need to know to safely take the boat to sea. Most of this course is on the water and will enhance and refine your sailing skills.
