![]() Safe Powerboat Handling Course for Young People aged 11-16 Cost $85.00 This one day course teaches each student how to safely operate a small powerboat. Examples of boats used are Carolina Skiff with 25hp engine, J24 sailing boat with 3hp engine. Students will learn how to be aware of and to avoid dangers, how to start engines, what to look for if they donīt start, safe driving speeds, turning, reversing, docking, tying up, loading the boat, helping passengers on and off, how to tilt engine, how to replace sheer pin. Also how to make sure their boats are properly equipped for safety and for coastguard regulations and how to recognize navigation markers. Each student will be given a practical and written test during the course of the day. Dates : Tides - Sat. April 12 / Sat. May 24/ Sat. July 19 / Sat. August 9. Williamburg - Sat. May 10 / Sat. June 28 / Sat. July 12.
Basic Seamanship Course for Young people age 9-12 Cost $65.00 This one day course teaches each student how to be safe and useful aboard a boat, gives them good habits and a good sense of safety and boat sense. the course includes: how to safely board and disembark from a boat, how to tie the boat up, how to prepare lines; when to push off and when not, how to fend off, how to load a boat, right of way rules for power and sail, dangers on and around boats, flags and their meaning, lifejackets and how to wear them. Both courses above run from 9.30 to 3.30 with a break for lunch and are scheduled on Saturdays throughout the season. Dates : Tides - Sat. April 12 / Sat. May 24/ Sat. July 19 / Sat. August 9.
